Spilman Resources Reaches the 17 Year Milestone

Spilman Resources Unlimited (SRU) has reached a Milestone with its Online Service (SRU BBS). SRU BBS started in March 1989 using a shareware product called WildCat BBS by Mustang Software. It took its first official call on the registered version of this software on April 9, 1989. The original scope of the system was to support the small business community. That is still the direction of the system today.
When SRU BBS first started, there was no such thing as easy Internet access. The concept of a BBS (Bulletin Board System) was to give people a place to call with their computer and modem to send and receive messages, download files that could help their productivity on their computer, and to play some games for relaxation. Many BBS's such as SRU BBS had Echo Mail Conferences which allowed callers to send and receive messages with their friends no matter where they were in the world. This was all handled then by Systems Operators (Sysops) using equipment in their homes and passing message packets amongst the systems. Some Sysops would create considerable expense in Long Distance calls passing these message packets. Does this sound familiar as to what the Internet has become?
As time has progressed, so has SRU BBS. While many BBS's even some large ones of days gone by have closed down, a few like SRU BBS have survived. By changing with the technology, SRU BBS has been able to keep its original focus and add the benefits small business needs. The system started not only providing Echo Mail but also Internet E-mail in 1994. In November 1996 the system was tied to the Internet full time at "http://www.srupc.com/". This allowed for instantaneous real time E-mail exchange via the Internet to SRU BBS members. It also allowed the system to start hosting web sites for some of its small business customers as well as provide a complete Real Estate Listing Database to users on the Internet.
Spilman Resources Unlimited owns all of its own Servers and houses all information and data right here in Carrollton. It does not sub out the Server housing to some other company in some other part of the country as some other services do. This allows for quick and easy access and local monitoring of the systems to keep data flowing. SRU can be a small business's one stop shop for all computer needs. SRU custom builds computers specifically for a clients particular need. It also handles service of its computers as well as computers bought elsewhere. SRU can register a domain name, create a Web Page, and then host the whole thing on its Servers. And for those small businesses who only need limited time access to the Internet, SRU can even handle dial in calls to the Internet for those customers. For those customers who only need to be able to E-mail and do not need all the extra fast computers, fast modems, and high resolution graphics, SRU can provide dial in access at 2400 baud or higher with DOS based communications to send and receive E-mail. A customer does not have to have an expensive computer just to have an E-mail address. No other service offers that in the Carrollton area for the small business community.
For those small business customers who wish to sell products on the Internet, they can either open up a shop in the SRU Shopping Mall, open a shop directly under the SRU domain (i.e. - srupc.com/businessname), or put one on their own domain name. SRU can handle either just hosting the shop or can create and publish the shop information for the customer. This gives the small business community several options to take advantage of the potential of the Internet sales.
As you can see, Spilman Resources Unlimited and its Online and Computer Sales and Service businesses have continued with a centralized focus on providing support for the Small Business community and has continued to grow in order to offer the latest technology to those Small Business customers.
